METAMORPHOSIS
ARTIST STATEMENT
“On seeing Di Lorenzo’s 15th century sculpture of John the Baptist as a boy, I was struck with an artistic idea: to deconstruct the pre-Renaissance image of that ideal while maintaining the image/memory of what is left.
Infusing energy and color, I transform the image through style, and through emotional time, over centuries, from outside in to inside out, from innocence to grime, from suppression to exposure, from asexual to transgender, colliding, like a painted dream, colliding into now.”
